I was speaking to a beautiful family friend who lives overseas last night and she was lamenting all the “bad stuff” that was happening in the world.
She quoted various recent incidents from around the world that were truly horrible.
But then I gently reminded her of the fact (and it is a fact) that there are more good people on the planet than there are bad. It has to be so. Otherwise the world would have imploded long ago.
Unfortunately the bad stuff grabs all the headlines and can easily swamp our minds. Then again, even in these instances, humanity wins as heroes emerge and we’re uplifted by what they were able to do in the face of such adversity and horror.
So what does this have to do with my beautiful shoe shop?
I think it’s important that we all create our own headlines; our own moments where we can be kind and give back and showcase the best in ourselves and others, and that’s true, too, for businesses.
Take FRANKiE4, for example. This Brisbane-based, podiatrist-designed brand has released an amazing shoe from which part proceeds will be donated to the Brainchild Foundation. They hope to raise $50,000 for this amazing charity by the end of the year.
Sure, they could write a cheque and donate the funds. But by sharing their message and having their fans wear the shoes that creates more conversations and more belief in humanity. I can’t wait for these hot pink ones to arrive at The Shoe Garden very soon!
So bravo to all the individuals and businesses, small and large, who are doing their bit to grab back our attention to focus on kindness.
Until next time
