I am currently watching my favourite TV series ever, The West Wing, for the fifth time!
C.J. Cregg is the White House Press Secretary in the series, played by Allison Janney, and I adore this character.
As in, I want to be her!
I want to be that savvy and smart and wise and compassionate and quick-witted and hey, did I mention she was the White House Press Secretary?! In my other life, it would have been a role of a lifetime.
But what we do share in common, this fictional TV character and I, is height. In an episode that I watched recently, CJ finds out her Secret Service codename is Flamingo and she’s not happy.
I, on the other hand, would love it. Flamingos stand tall and proud and are pink. What’s not to love?
Then again, having seen tens of thousands of them many years ago at Lake Nakuru in Kenya, a fluttering haze of pink as far as the eye could see, I also know they’re pretty smelly.
Anyway, I was reminded of this episode as I introduced my customers earlier in the week to Florence the flamingo, a fabulous piece of art sculpted from recycled steel drums, designed in Australia and made in Vietnam. I found her in a delightful café and gift shop at Forest Hill, near Laidley, called Caffe Sorella, owned by the gorgeous Luciana. She has a great eye for selecting gifts that are different and stand out.
Florence is truly fabulous. Her long neck is graceful and curves down to a body covered in dark and light pink feathers that look like a breeze is brushing through them. She has large eyes that watch over the shop and her beak, curving downwards, is just gorgeous.
She was designed to be a cooler for drinks and ice, but to me she was always much better suited to display beautiful pink hydrangeas instead!
She’s been a welcome addition to The Shoe Garden decor.
And yes, her feet are gorgeous and long, too!
Until next time
