There may be an indent on my desk that’s in the shape of my head…
…from where I’ve been banging it…
…again and again!
I gave all my suppliers lots of notice and carefully explained my idea that shouldn’t be so revolutionary but apparently is … in a nutshell, new shoes arriving every month of the year.
Great idea, I was told. No problems, they assured me.
So far, I’ve sent 11 boxes back that arrived in early August when I asked for them in October.
And I’ve rejected 14 boxes that were on their way this week that were supposed to arrive in October and November.
I guess they now understand that I’m not messing around.
I don’t care if the invoices are dated to the month I requested delivery (and yes, of course, I do care about that but it’s a given really) … I just don’t have the space for everything to arrive at once and if all my October shoes arrive in August and September, I won’t have anything new to showcase in that month. Or very little and that’s not my plan.
On the flip side, I’ve had shoes that I had wanted to arrive be anywhere from two to five months late. I anticipated that might be the case and often it’s unavoidable with freight delays and customs .. I even heard about one delivery being late (not mine, thank goodness!), because the truck carrying the shoes was involved in an accident and caught on fire. The shoes didn’t make it!
So, my shoes and their arrival in-store are part of a giant, ever-changing jigsaw puzzle basically. I guess we’re all learning as I go along and the most important thing is that I fulfil my pledge to offer my gorgeous customers something exciting and new each and every month.
It has been a slow start, but I’m getting into the groove and, importantly, so are my suppliers!
Until next time
